Miami, Florida is revered for its instantly recognizable style, and its place in pop culture is longstanding. Catching a glimpse of a celebrity or two in Miami isn’t difficult. “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”, which ultimately made Jim Carrey a superstar, was filmed all over Miami. Pop culture enthusiasts should definitely stop by the Orange Bowl, where all of the football scenes featuring the Miami Dolphins were filmed. Another movie called “The Birdcage” showed off the city in all of its brilliant Art Deco glory, with locations that included the Art Deco Historic District, the Carlyle Hotel and vibrant South Beach.
The hilarious “Something About Mary” featured many recognisable Miami institutions including the Miami Dade Cultural Centre. One of the movie’s classic scenes takes place at the elegant Art Deco hotel named the Cordoza Hotel in South Beach. If you recall, this is the scene where Cameron Diaz uses a certain ‘hair gel’, provided by Ben Stiller.
The popular TV show “Burn Notice” continues to film in Miami, and if you plan your trip just right, you might catch a glimpse of the show’s stars. The episodes are practically dripping with Miami appeal right down to famous bikini scenes and fruity cocktails. The neighbourhood of Coconut Grove provides many of the backdrops for this amusing spy caper.
Miami offers something for everyone no matter what their interest might be, and this is what makes it so appealing to the entertainment community. For example, when filmmakers shoot in Miami, they might capture the city’s collection of Art Deco architecture which happens to be the largest in the world.
