Holidays in Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is the fastest growing holiday resort on the popular island of Lanzarote.  And little wonder as visitors here can enjoy wonderful beaches as well as a wide selection of good quality accommodation options.  Encompassing everything from basic studio apartments through to luxury high end hotels.
Tourism, first started to really take off here back in the 1970s –  as holidays in Lanzarote started to feature in the brochures of tour operators.  But Playa Blanca didn’t emerge as a resort until the late 1990´s.  As tourist development on the island has followed strict planning controls.  As a result Playa Blanca is the newest resort and the most modern destination on Lanzarote.  Whilst also enjoying the best weather – as the micro climate at this end of the island is much more favourable than elsewhere.
Playa Blanca is also home to one of the largest selections of apartments and villas in Lanzarote – making it ideal for anyone planning a self catering holiday.  And also offers better value for money than many of the other resorts, with the price of a weeks stay here in a private villa with pool starting at about €400 per week.
Playa Blanca enjoys a really sheltered position on the island which is another reason why its climate is so good.  It therefore enjoys more protection from the Trade Winds that can gust through here from April to August.  Whilst its location on the more placid south east shoreline of the island ensures that the waters here are calm and ideal for swimming all year round.
As well as great weather Playa Blanca also boasts some wonderful beaches to lap it all up on. The best known of which are the beaches at Papagayo – or parrot in Spanish.  Which are located around fifteen minutes walk from the centre of the resort and which are superb stretches of all natural sand.  Where beach lovers can wander from one cove to the next whilst drinking in great views across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.
Such is Playa Blanca´s allure that many visitors here end up buying property as a result.  Villas in Playa Blanca represent great value for money as they can currently be purchased from as little as €200,000.  And command rental rates of €400 per week upwards.    Whilst apartments start at around €100,000 for anyone seeking to invest in something a little smaller.

Discover Lanzarote This Winter

In spite of the recession hundreds of thousands of tourists will still be flying off for a sunshine break this winter.  Exchanging the cold and gloom of the UK for warmth and beaches in far flung destinations around the world.  But you don’t have to break the bank to join the jetsetters this year.  As some destinations, such as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands are within the reach of all.

Lanzarote has long been a firm favourite with British holidaymakers thanks to a great year round climate and an abundance of excellent golden sand beaches.  Boasting a terrain that is far more arid and dry than the other six islands that makes up the archipelago.  A legacy of low rainfall and the islands volcanic roots.

Flights to Lanzarote have become much cheaper recently – as there is now more competition on this route as the bigger low cost airlines such as Ryanair have started to enter the market.  Dropping ticket prices to as low as £9.99 return.  Cheaper than some London tube train journeys.

Accommodation in Lanzarote is very affordable too.  For example a weeks stay on an apartment complex in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen – home to some fabulous beaches – costs as little as £160 this winter. And that’s the price per room, not per person.

Visitors will find that the temperatures are in the 20´s – making it possible to enjoy long lazy days by the pool or at the beach.  Although during the winter months the mercury can fall quickly after sun down.  Which is never earlier than 18.00.  Giving more sunshine hours than the UK too.

In the unlikely event that the weather refuses to play ball for a day or two there’s still loads to do and see.  And many first time visitors are amazed at the abundance of Lanzarote´s attractions.

There are a dozen good quality museums – such as the Museum of International and Contemporary Art located in the historic Castillo San Jose in the capital of Arrecife.  Along with a wealth of cultural attractions created by the island born artist Cesar Manrique.  Whose influence on Lanzarote is inescapable.  As his work adorns everything from coffee mugs to roundabouts and much more in-between.

One of the joys of a holiday here is that the island is small.  Making touring and exploring really manageable and easy.  Car hire in Lanzarote is cheap too – starting from as little as €90 per week.

Discover Magical Mallorca

The largest Balearic Island of Mallorca is a real hot favourite with tourists. Who flock here in their millions from May through until September.  Boasting beautiful beaches, stunning pine clad scenery, historic towns and cities and a real wealth of things to do and see.  Offering all the right ingredients for the perfect holiday destination.

Mallorca has in fact been welcoming famous guests and VIP visitors for centuries.  As the island has played host to eminents such as Frederic Chopin, George Sands, Joan Miro and Robert graves over the years.  And is still a magnet for creative and artistic types today.

The island was restored to Christian rule in the early 1300´s after many centuries of subjugation by the Moors.  With this victory marked by the construction of Palma Cathedral on the site of their main mosque.  An amazing feat of architecture which has effectively been a work in progress ever since – as successive rulers and bishops sought to add their own personal flourishes to this amazing edifice.

During the 1980´s Mallorca began to acquire a reputation as a slightly downmarket destination.  Fuelled by the boozy escapades of British tourists and the Club 18-30 crowd in mega resorts such as Magaluf in the south of the island.

That’s all largely history now – but the north now enjoys a more upmarket image as a result.  With well heeled holidaymakers heading for destinations such as Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia.  Which is also where the bulk of the best hotels and holiday villas in Mallorca are located.

The majestic Tramantuna Mountains dominate this part of the island. Providing a hugely atmospheric backdrop for tourists staying in coastal resorts such as Puerto Pollensa.  Which is the seaside sister to the former Roman settlement of Pollensa which lies about 8km inland.

As a result visitors can enjoy hiking and mountain biking whilst on holiday here – as well as days on the beach or by the pool.  Offering plenty of variety to those who like to do more than just soak up the sun.

Such is Mallorca’s size that separate resorts on the island even cater to specific nationalities and age groups.  With British tourists especially opting for destinations such as Alcudia – with its enormous 9km long beach – and Cala D’or on the east coast.  Home to seven separate sandy coves.

Travelling to the island is easy from mainland Europe.  As well as cheap flights from most countries there’s also a regular ferry service to Mallorca from both Valencia and Barcelona.

Taking Mobile Broadband Abroad – Dont Get Ripped Off

Taking Mobile Broadband Abroad

Mobile broadband is one of the most popular and revolutionary advances made in telecommunications in recent years. Once restricted to the possession of military groups transmitting bulk operational data and video feeds, it now serves common civilian purposes for business, entertainment and social connection, the same as a grounded communications network. Mobile broadband allows you to take full web access and downloads with you worldwide, taking advantage of both ground antennas and satellite networks to guarantee global coverage for all your communication and data needs, whether you’re sending e-mails for the office or simply keeping in touch with your friends from university.

Mobile broadband is fraught with dangerous catches, however. Individuals must be very careful with their roaming charges. Much as roaming charges were the silent killer for wireless billing at the advent of cellular phones, roaming charges are now applied to data plans, and applied aggressively, often under other titles. Simply having coverage available for traveling out of the designated area can, in some cases, incur a charge that the user may not anticipate for their monthly fees.

Mobile broadband plans come in a variety of fashions. Some are intended solely for local, urban use, often anticipating that the user will be leeching broadband from various free internet providers around the city. Other plans are actually intended for on-the-go, letting individuals roam anywhere within a country or on a continent without consequence. However, the distinction is not always clear between these. Well before the time of signing, the purchaser should make absolutely certain they understand everything in their contract, what they will need to pay each month and, especially, how much use of any additional amenities will cost them on a per-use basis, if any, as well as what overages may be incurred from excess data or from roaming out of the intended service area.

Mobile broadband is a staple amenity of the 21st century growing more and more popular with each passing day, but it is not yet perfected, nor is access to it a utopian gambit either. As with older cell phone plans, users must be very aware and very conscious of what they do each day with their access to data, primarily for their own financial benefit. However, mobile broadband is only growing more widespread, with the market opening wider and wider each day with lower and lower monthly rates and fees; it will persist and become more available, and then, it will be completely safe to take abroad.

The well trained, multilingual staff at this over fifty-year old non-profit foundation can also help you find a physician when you are traveling out of the country.  They will be able to communicate with the local medical personnel in foreign countries to determine what treatments will be necessary to help you.

Here Are Some Great Travel Accessories To Make Your Vacation Easier, More Comfortable And Safer

If you would like to know what travel accessories are available to make your trip easier, more comfortable, and safer, here are some great products.  These items should be available at most  luggage and travel accessories stores.

What are compression bags and can they save a lot of space in your travel luggage?

If you use space saving clear plastic compression bags when packing your clothes, you can save up to a whopping 80% more space in your luggage.  They can be used over and over again for many years of very easy packing.

What is a non-slip security wallet and how does it work?

One accessory you should consider buying is the non-slip security travel wallet.  It is about the same size as a regular wallet but it has non-slip rubber on one side which will rub against and catch on the inside of your pocket if it accidentally slips out of your pocket, or if someone tries to pick your pocket.  Always put your wallet in your front pocket.  Under no circumstances should you ever carry your wallet in your back pocket.  Professional thieves the world over call it “the sucker pocket”.

Here’s a great trick!  You can convert your wallet into a non-slip wallet by putting a couple of wide rubber bands around it.  Another solution that will help with the pickpocket problem is a chain-equipped security travel wallet which can be attached to your belt.
The secret waist wallet is a wallet that compliments the non-slip travel wallet.  It fits nicely under your shirt or blouse, but is still easily accessible.  It is not a good idea to lift your shirt or blouse up and open this wallet in public as you never know who is watching, like a would be pickpocket, or robber.   It is best to open it discretely where no one can see you doing it, such as in a public washroom stall.

A leather money belt that has a concealed, zippered pocket on the inner side of it, is an excellent security travel product.  You can hide paper money, small, foldable documents, or a key in the secure, zippered pocket.

Security socks are stay-up, elastic stretch socks that have a concealed, zippered pocket on the inside of each one of a pair of these socks.   These socks would be very difficult for a pickpocket to access.

Another unique accessory is the RFID blocking passport holder.  This radio frequency identification holder protects your passport, and other important documents that could be compromised by data-stealing hackers.

Combination and key accessible combo luggage locks make it possible for custom’s officials to unlock your checked luggage for inspection with special skeleton keys, then lock your luggage up again.  You then can dial the combination and you can open your luggage.  This can save you a lot of time and money replacing regular locks that custom’s agents had to break to gain entry to inspect your luggage.  Another great plus with these combo locks is that you don’t have any keys to worry about losing or replacing.

You can carry a personal, battery-operated security alarm that emits a loud, shrill pitched sound that may help ward off a mugger or robber.  Another product that is less expensive and will produce the same effect is a referee’s whistle, which you can hide under your shirt or blouse, attached to a string and hung around your neck. Battery-operated hotel room intruder alarms are great hotel room safety devices.  One type of alarm hangs on the room’s door knob.  Any movement of the door knob or door will set the alarm off.  Another one is the doorstop type which you push under the door’s bottom edge.  If someone tries to open the hotel room door, the alarm will be triggered.

Women travelers can get an innovative security purse that has a steel cable sewn into the strap.  This will foil a thief who attempts to cut through the strap and tries to take off with their purse.

Easy is the word for the pocket pillow that is approximately 6” x 4” x 1”.   It inflates to about 19” x 15”, and is handy to carry with you.  It makes a comfortable pillow to rest your head upon.

Always protect your eyes from the tropical sun when traveling by wearing sunglasses that carry both a UVA as well as a UVB certified protection label.

A handy little book light that clamps on to the edge of your book enables you to conveniently read in dim light or total darkness.  It also allows you to read in the dark without disturbing your sleeping travel companion.

If you are backpacking you should consider wearing a steel-mesh equipped backpack.  These great backpacks have a security steel mesh sewn into the bottom and sides, the most vulnerable places where a thief could slash it with a knife.  When this happens, everything tumbles out, and the thief and his accomplices grab anything of valuable and run away in different directions.
Keep in mind that you will probably have to use adaptor plugs and converters if you are traveling to certain countries.

A large travel accessories store, Magellan’s, has an award-winning catalogue that has everything for travelers from adaptor plugs to secret security wallets.  You can order their catalogue online, at

Tilley Endurables is a legendary manufacturer of sun-protective travel clothing and accessories. They created the world-famous Tilley Hat and specialize in making stylish, comfortable, and practical outdoor hats and travel clothing.  Most of the fabrics that they use in manufacturing their hats and clothing carry a certified UPF 50+ rating label, which is the highest rating for sun protection available.  You can order their sun-protective clothing and accessories catalogue on their website, at
