The emergence of the Asian markets that are making their effects felt in the West have brought about a new push of tourism over in destinations such as Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo. However, one location that has been popular for a many number of years to Westerners is Singapore.

The Republic of Singapore, as it is known officially, has had a lot of involvement with Britain and its Commonwealth throughout the last two or three centuries and so has built up a strong relationship with British visitors. The past saw Singapore become a bustling trading port, but now, it is more about finance and banking, with the likes of asset management jobs in Singapore proving very popular, and as a result has one of the most dazzling skylines in the East.

This doesn’t mean that the history is gone, as many of the Republic’s relics are available to visit outside of the city, but the main attractions tend to be among the skyscrapers and Singapore’s wonderful Marina Bay. Here are a few ideas of where to go if you’re planning a visit:

Singapore Zoo

Singapore’s zoo is one of the busiest attractions in the city, but due to an early opening time (8.30am), it is a perfect place to start the day in order to beat both the crowds and the heat. The zoo hosts many shows during the day which starts with the Jungle Breakfast, whilst bringing a swimsuit is advisable for the Rainforest KidzWorld. The whole experience is perfect for those with both older and young children.

Marina Bay

Down near what is known as Central Area is Singapore’s Marina Bay which is possibly the best 24/7 destination within the city. The main attraction has to be the triple structure of the main luxury hotel that stands right on the bay itself where you can climb right to the top for the perfect view of Singapore. The bay has had its profile heightened over the years by the popularity of the Singapore Grand Prix which attracts people in their thousands every year.

MacRitchie Nature Trail

Just a short trip out of the city will see you find this area that is of complete contrast to the built up concrete jungle and places you right in the heart of nature. The MacRitchie Reservoir is a sight to behold in itself, but the surrounding reserve is just as break-taking as you navigate through thick forest areas, with the TreeTop walk a particular highlight of this Singapore attraction.
